Thought I take a moment and give you a list of the software currently used in our web development office. To start with, let's talk about the text editor. Currently I use Homesite 4. Now, this is an old version and there have been updates made by the company. Actually, the original company, Allaire Corporation, no longer builds Homesite. Macromedia, the maker of Dreamweaver, now owns Homesite. I like Homesite. It is not a WYSIWYG, Pronounced WIZ-zee-wig. Short for What You See Is What You Get. It is a real text editor and at least a basic knowledge of HTML is needed to use it effectively. In my opinion, any one seeking to enter the field of web development needs to have HTML knowledge and by all means use a text editor. |

Understanding Hosting:Hosting is the location on the web were a domain name resides. It is an address on the web where visitors can view web pages. Think of it as an apartment building with a large number of units. An address, in this example, would be something like: Perro Bytes22 Web Street, Unit 2Host, Server 666666 In the above address, Perro Bytes is the name of your web site. Let's call it "PerroBytes.com". The rest of the address is where "PerroBytes.com" is located. So, continuing with our analogy, let's assume that someone is trying to locate Mr. Bytes through the phone book. The searcher would look in the "B" section of the book and locate the address where Mr. Bytes resides. |
